This is a story about the life of south asian migrants in the Middle East.
The protagonist Sameera moves to the city in search of a better life. She is living with her father and extended family in a large mansion.Life goes smooth for Sameera. She also manages to rekindle her long lost interest towards playing the guitar. Her perfect life gets disrupted due to protests by a section of citizens against the ruler of the country.Things turn worse when the government pulls in the migrants into the protest and pits them against the protestors.Tensions flare up among people who were friends just weeks ago.Eventually the protest is quelled but life changes for ever for Sameera
Verdict : *** A good read on the aspirations and challenges of people who immigrate to the Middle East in search of a better life.
Especially I loved the way the author captured the life of baba, the father of Sameera who has left his family and lives in a foreign country for most of his life and visiting his family back home once in a while.
