Everglow.

A great song by one of my favorite music bands . What wonderful lyrics.

"there’s a light that you give me when I’m in shadow
there’s a feeling you give me, an everglow"

There are several versions of this song. My personal favorite (even though its all electronic and blah blah) is this :

Lyrics: (http://coldplay.com/song/everglow/)

oh they say people come, say people go
this particular diamond was extra special
and though you might be gone, and the world may not know
still I see you, celestial
like a lion you ran,  a goddess you rolled
like an eagle you circled, in perfect purple
so how come things move on, how come cars don’t slow
when it feels like the end of my world
when I should but I can’t let you go?
but when I’m cold, cold
oh when I’m cold, cold
there’s a light that you give me when I’m in shadow
there’s a feeling you give me, an everglow
like brothers in blood, sisters who ride
and we swore on that night we’d be friends til we die
but the changing of winds, and the way waters flow
life as short as the falling of snow
and now I’m gonna miss you I know
but when I’m cold, cold
in water rolled, salt
I know that you’re with me and the way you will show
and you’re with me wherever I go
and you give me this feeling this everglow
oh- I I I I
what I wouldn’t give for just a moment to hold
yeah I live for this feeling this everglow
so if you love someone, you should let them know
oh the light that you left me will everglow

The Airtel Hyderabad Marathon

Participated in the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 2016 edition . It is a culmination of several months of 'practice'  .  Part of it in San Diego and then here in Hyderabad.

The practice sessions were all lonely. However race day was really wonderful. The entire city came joined in  for its support to cheer us all along the way.

Finally , I managed to complete the run in a reasonable time of about 1 hour.
A unique experience , first time in my life .

1000W excitement seeing Daddy run!

Finish line .

Into the Wild - Jon Krakauer .

"I wanted movement ,not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and changes, and a chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance, of energy which found no outlet in our quite life"
-- Le Tolstoy - 'Family Happiness'  (highlighted in one of Chris McCandles's remains). - pg 15.

"No man ever followed his genius till it misled him .Though the results were bodily weakness, yet perhaps no one can say that the consequences were to be regretted , for these were a life in conformity to higher principles. If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy , and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic , more starry , more immortal - that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have caused momentarily to bless yourself".  - Henry David Thoreau (Walden, or Life in the Woods ) - pg 47.

pg 55-57 - real gold advice. Liked it a lot.

The very core a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy then to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun .. once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty .

You are wrong if you think joy emanates only or principally from human relationships. God has placed it all around us. It is in everything and anything  we might experience. We just have to have the courage to turn against our habitual lifestyle and engage in unconventional living.

Don't hesitate or allow yourself to make excuses. Just get out and do it. You will be very very glad that you did it. - pg 58.

"Rather than love, that money, than fame , give me truth. I sat at a table where were rich food and wine in abundance, an obsequious attendance, but sincerity and truth were not; and I went hungry from the inhospitable board. "  -- Henry David Thoreau (Walden). - pg 117.

"For children are innocent and love justice; while most of us are wicked and naturally prefer mercy "
                                 -G.K. Chesterton - pg 117.

Starvation is not pleasant way to expire. In advanced stages of famine, as the body begins to consume itself, the victim suffers muscle pain, heart disturbances..some people who have been brought back from starvation ...though , report that near the end the hunger vanishes, the terrible pain dissolves ,and the suffering is replaced by a sublime euphoria, a sense of calm accompanied by transcendent mental clarity - pg 198.

Death's a fierce meadowlark: but to die having made
Something more equal to the centuries
Than muscle and bone, is mostly shed weakness
The mountains are dead stone, the people
Admire or hate their stature , their insolent quietness,
The mountains are not softened or troubled
And a few dead mens;s thoughts have the same temper.
                                                   - pg 199.

The entire epilog, wher Billie and Walt (Parents) meet Chris's bus is quite moving .

Loved this book and the movie. Recommended if you like nature and travel writing.

Life of Pi

The reason death sticks closely to life isnt biological necessity - its envy. Life is so beautiful, that death has fallen in love with it.

The first time I went to an Indian restaurant in Canada, I used my fingers. The waiter looked critical and said , 'Fresh off the boat are you ?' I blanched. My fingers, which as second before had been taste  buds savoring the food little ahead of my mouth , became dirty under her gaze. They froze like criminals caught in the act ... I picked up the knife and the fork..my hands trembled .
My sambhar lost its taste

The art of racing in the rain - Garth Stein

The true hero is flawed. The test of the true champion is not weather he can triump, but weather he can overcome obstacles, preferably is own making - in order to triumph. A hero without a flaw is of no interest to an audience to the universe ,which after all is based on conflict and opposition - pg 135

I will often admire a beautiful sunrise, but I will never consider son a champion for having risen - pg 136.

We are all offered our physical existence so we can learn about ourselves... he chose his life and therefore he chose this battle.

He died because his body has served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do , learned what it came to learn , and then was free to leave -- (About Aryaton Senna).

To live everyday as it as it had been stolen from death, that is how I would like to live. To feel the joy of life..

---- An interesting narration . 3 stars.

Ente Kannil Ninakai.

Wonderful chords. Although its 'inspired' by a french song by Carla Bruni.

Never knew the actor Nazriya Nazim had such a wonderful voice.
After liking the song I looked for the translations that is nice too! Enjoy.

Rough translation (From : http://bablisara-covers.blogspot.com/2014/06/ente-kannil-ninakkai.html)
F:
Don't look into the dreams I've decorated for you in my eyes,
You needn't see them at all..
Don't tell anybody how much you mean to me, you needn't say any fab stories

The songs we hum together, you needn't hear them.
Let alone sing them nor dance to it with me ..
You needn't allow me to follow you. You needn't look back at all..

If your eyes don't meet mine, will you still recognize me? Will you say anything at all to me?

Are the moist in my eyes tears? I don't know. Are you my eternal dream? I don't know..
The soul of this music has a blob of pain which you never need to recognize.
You don't ever have to know...anything!
I still sing only because this song is my very own. Always will be. Like it should be..

உரையாடல் தீர்ந்தால் உன் மௌனங்கள் போதும்"

Between the world and me - Ta Nehisi Coates.

Do not speak to me of martyrdom,
of men who die to be remembered
on some parish day.
I dont belive in dying
though, I too shall die
                                                               - Sonia Sanchez

But race is the child of racism , not the father

The schools were not concerned with curiosity , they were concerned with compliance.

My work is to give you what I know of my own particular path while allowing you to walk your own.

I grew up in a house between love and feature. But this girl...revealed something else-- that love be soft and understanding; that soft or hard, love was an act of heroism .- pg 61.

Everything that was the past seemed to be another life. There was before you, and then there was after, and in this after you were the God I've never had  - (about his son) - pg 67.

I wanted you to know that the world in its entirety could never be found in the schools, alone , nor on
streets along, not in the trophy case -- pg 68

Most of us are forced to drink our travestieds straight and smile about it - pg 83.
