My first and only book around fitness and health in 2024.I have heard about Peter Attia and his podcast from random reels that Instagram pops up.
*About the book : In this book Peter Attia shares his insights on extending our lifespan. It's not just increasing the number of years we live but staying healthy mentally, physically and emotionally until the end. Our lives can be cut short either suddenly or over time (fast vs slow death). The book is an attempt to explain the causes for the slow death and ways to prevent it.
The initial chapters go deep on the Four Horsemen responsible for cutting short our life.Heart Attack, Diabetes, Hypertension and Cancer.
* I loved the section on cardiac arrest, including information on blood markers that a person must check to understand his/her risk profile cardiac incidents.I found some explanation why some fit and 'lean' people may have higher risk of cardiac instances.This is a must read section for all my runner friends who have apprehensions based on recent incidents in running races.
* The next section that resonated with me (as an amateur runner) is the importance of resistance and weight training.
* Verdict : ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved this book as there were many topics that are close to my heart. Its written well and it is a good source of information for anyone interested in health, fitness and longevity in general.
