Did you know that director
Ang Lee was contemplating
taking up a computer job early in his career.
What a loss that would have been. We would have missed movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon ,Hulk and we would have missed such a nice on-screen adaptation of Life of Pi.
Based on a book by the same name, Life of Pi takes us through the journey of Pi Patel, who manages to survive from a ship wreck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
I have not read the book yet (big regret ) but still I felt that AngLee has done a great job with the onscreen adaptation.
More than half of the movie happens deep in the Pacific ocean but you will never believe, all of those ocean scenes were not made on a custom tank set made for this movie.
The best way to watch this movie is on big screen (preferably IMAX) . Watching on a PC would be a gross injustice to all the Visual imagery Apart from the visual spectacle there are other subtle things about this movie which could not be specified without adding some spoilers from the movie.
There were several subtle quotes especially in the first half of the movie. Here is one of my favorites.
Adult Pi Patel: Faith is a house with many rooms.
Writer: But no room for doubt?
Adult Pi Patel: Oh plenty, on every floor. Doubt is useful, it keeps faith a living thing. After all, you cannot know the strength of your faith until it is tested.
Whatever is your view about religion/God ,this movie would not disappoint you. Life of Pi is easily one of my best movies of this year and would definitely figure in my 'all time favorites'.
